2026 information for voters in the SLRD
The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors composed of four Electoral Area Directors (areas A, B, C and D) and seven Municipal Directors (District of Lillooet (1), Village of Pemberton (1), Resort Municipality of Whistler (2), District of Squamish (3)).
In a regional district, eligible rural residents vote in their respective electoral area. Find out more about the SLRD Electoral Areas.
In a General Local Election, an Electoral Area Director may be elected by acclamation (in the case of a single qualified candidate) or by voting (where there is more than one qualified candidate). Each Municipal Director on the SLRD Board is appointed by their Council from their elected members.
The SLRD is within the core traditional territories of the Líl̓wat, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and St’át’imc Nations. Voters who are members of First Nations communities, including those living on reserve lands within the SLRD, are entitled to participate in the General Local Election when they meet provincial voter eligibility requirements.
Voter eligibility
You are eligible to vote if you are a qualified Resident Elector or a qualified Non-Resident Property Elector and are required to present acceptable identification at the voting location.
How, where, and when to vote
Candidates are now confirmed for the 2026 General Local Election.
Where more than one qualified candidate is nominated, eligible voters will elect an Electoral Area Director by voting. Where only one qualified candidate is nominated, that candidate is elected by acclamation, and no vote is required for that position.
For the 2026 General Local Election, SLRD Electoral Area B and SLRD Electoral Area C have been elected by acclamation. No vote is required in these areas.
SLRD Electoral Area A and SLRD Electoral Area D will proceed to an election by voting. Information about voting opportunities is provided further below.

Mail ballot voting opportunity
Completed mail ballot packages may be returned by mail, courier (at the applicant's expense) or dropped-off.
Once a mail ballot package has been issued to you, the election system will record that you have received a ballot. You will not be issued another ballot at an in-person voting opportunity.
If you later decide to vote in person, you must bring your mail ballot package with you to the voting place. Electors are only permitted to vote once in an election. Recording the issuance of mail ballots helps ensure the integrity of the election process and prevents an elector from voting both by mail and in person.
Return instructions and applicable deadlines will be included with your mail ballot package.
How to apply for a mail ballot package
Applications for a mail ballot package are open!
Applications will be accepted until October 15, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., but electors will need to consider the time to receive, complete and return a mail ballot package before the return deadline.
Eligible electors must apply in writing using one of the following two methods:
- Complete the online Mail Ballot Application form below (applicable to your Electoral Area); or
- Contact the Deputy Chief Election Officer at (604) 894-6371 ext. 291 or by email at election@slrd.bc.ca to arrange an alternate method to apply in writing such as by email, mail, fax, or delivery to the SLRD Administrative Office in-person.

Note: If you are unsure what electoral area your residence and/or property is in, you can search your property address using the SLRD Interactive map.
Note: The earliest date that mail ballot packages are expected to be available is September 29, 2026, and mail ballot packages will not be issued if an election by voting is not required because a candidate has been acclaimed.
How to Return a completed mail ballot package
Completed mail ballot packages must be received by the applicable deadline for your chosen return method in order to be counted.
Instructions on how to return your mail ballot package, including the deadline for each return method, will be included in the mail ballot package sent to electors.
Mail ballot packages received after the applicable deadline cannot be counted, regardless of the mailing date.
Voter Accessibility
Voting by mail ballot is the most accessible and convenient way to participate in the 2026 Local General Election.
Completed mail ballot packages do not have to be returned through the postal system; there will be additional options such as courier (at the expense of the applicant) and drop-off to make the mail ballot process as convenient as possible for eligible voters.
SLRD voting locations are accessible and equipped to accommodate individuals with mobility challenges and those who use assistive devices.
Voters who need help during the voting process may have another person assist them. This support can include translation, mobility assistance, or help marking the ballot. Anyone who assists a voter will be required to complete a form at the voting place. If a voter does not have someone who can assist them, they may request assistance from an SLRD election official.
If you are unable to enter a voting place due to mobility challenges and choose not to vote by mail ballot, curbside voting is available at voting locations. Please note there is limited staff available to facilitate curbside voting and you may experience an extended wait upon arrival. If you plan to request curbside voting, we appreciate your patience and understanding as election staff work to assist all voters at the voting place.
If you require more information about voter accessibility, please contact the SLRD Elections Office.
