Based on recommendations from geotechnical engineers (BGC Engineering), an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District due to the Seton Portage debris flow event that has occurred in Electoral Area B.
Because of the potential danger to life and health, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert for the following properties:
- 8282 Seton Portage Rd
- 8332 Seton Portage Rd
- LOT 5 DISTRICT LOT 1593 LILLOOET DISTRICT PLAN KAP70964
- LOT 6 DISTRICT LOT 1593 LILLOOET DISTRICT PLAN KAP70964
- LOT 9 DISTRICT LOT 1593 LILLOOET DISTRICT PLAN KAP70964
- All SLRD properties as outlined in the map.
An Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible before evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to rapidly changing conditions.
NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE FOR AN EVACUATION
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
- Pre-register for Emergency Support Services online at: ESS.gov.bc.ca/
- Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside of the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.
- Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g., insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure.
- Prepare to move people who may need additional time to evacuate, children and/or neighbours who would require assistance.
- If you require assistance, call the SLRD Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at 604-384-7357.
- Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).
- Arrange transportation and accommodations for all your household members, if possible, and fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.
- Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating.

State of Local Emergency
On September 2, 2026, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) will declare a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) for the debris flow affected area in Seton Portage in Electoral Area B, specifically in the vicinity of Bear and Pete’s watershed, including properties above Seton Portage Road.
The SOLE provides the legal authority needed to support recovery efforts, including site access, debris flood protection measures, and debris cleanup, while enabling the SLRD to access provincial support under emergency management legislation.
This declaration is an administrative tool that helps crews carry out recovery work safely and efficiently. It does not mean the situation has worsened or that there is an increased risk to public safety.
The SOLE takes effect on September 2, 2026 and will remain in place for 14 days, until September 16, 2026, unless rescinded earlier by the SLRD.
